Susie Pryor Award Applicants and Judges Criteria
Entry essays will be judged according to the following criteria:

2) Sources: Entries must make intensive and interpretive use of primary sources and or archival evidence. Papers will be judged on the merits of the author’s original research methods.
3) Textual criticism: The paper should include a coherent discussion of the analytical limitations of the primary sources. Historical facts should be examined, rather than simply reported.
4) Historiography: In the interest of placing the subject in proper historical context, the paper should include a survey of appropriate secondary material and should reflect the author’s analysis of the primary evidence within the context of previous work on the subject.
5) Papers will be judged for stylistic excellence and good organizational strategy, as well as superior research, analysis, and historiography. In addition, papers must be properly documented with either footnotes or endnotes.
Please submit one electronic of each paper and one copy of the Submission Form. Papers, including quotations and footnotes, should be double-spaced and be between 20-35 pages in length.
